BLESSEDNESS OF SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES
Welcome to 06/06 and the BLESSEDNESS OF SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES is in Matthew 06/06-
"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."
One of the spiritual disciplines that Jesus wants his followers to indulge in is PRAYER - "But thou, when thou prayest"
Unlike the religious people in the days of Jesus who loved to pray in the open for people to see them, God instructed his followers to go to a secret place to pray - "enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret"
Jesus reiterated that our heavenly Father dwells in the secret place - "thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret"
When you pray to your heavenly Father in the secret place, he will reward you in the open - "and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."
Jesus discouraged his disciples from praying in the open to get the applause of men and lose the reward of God because God sees you as a hypocrite - "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." vs 5
- God wants you to pray more in the secret place between you and him than in the public.
- God wants you to pray for him to see you praying rather than to pray solely for people to see you praying.
- Your reward when you pray in the secret is much more than when you pray in the open for people to see you.
- God wants to have fellowship with you in your closet and reward your closet fellowship with him in the open.
- You must never pray for people and social media to see and hear you if you want God to see, hear and reward you.
PRAYER
O LORD, MAKE ME ADDICTED TO FELLOWSHIPPING WITH YOU IN THE SECRET TO WOO AND WIN YOUR DIVINE REWARDS IN THE OPEN IN JESUS' NAME.
PRAY FOR GOD TO HEAR, SEE AND REWARD YOU AND NOT FOR PEOPLE TO NOTICE YOU
